Professional Worcester Headshot Photographer | Tom Godfrey Photography | 51 Union St. Worcester, MA

Headshots are so simple but so important. When it comes to business, establishing trust is the most important step towards success. With the vast majority of businesses heading online, a current headshot has never been more important. Your potential clients want to see who you are because they want to make a human connection. Think of your lovely face as the first big piece of your brand and the message that you want to deliver to clients. Are you after a look that says confidence and approachability? Determination with a hint of intimidation? Something in-between? Hiring the right photographer can help you define your brand in a single photograph without the experience being something that you remember for all of the wrong reasons. My studio is in Worcester but I also provide on-location headshot sessions in Shrewsbury, Holden, Grafton, Westborough, and all of Central MA. Use the contact below to book your headshot session!

Worcester studio headshots for LinkedIn, modeling portfolios, actor headshots and more

Your brand is just as important when you are looking for a job. With websites like LinkedIn being critical in the job search and networking, a professional headshot makes you stand out. Having a professional headshot shows that you care about the image that you put out and that you care enough to invest in a professional. I’m not just saying this. According to LinkedIn, you are 14 times more likely to be noticed by potential employers if you have a professional headshot. Camera phones are getting more and more impressive and AI might give us all a run for the money soon, but they can’t compete with a professional photographer who has spent years nerding out over angles and light. A good headshot photographer can make you look great on camera but a great headshot photographer knows that a LinkedIn headshot has different requirements than an acting headshot or modeling portfolio. A therapist’s headshot is not the same as an attorney’s headshot.

UMASS Chan Medical School Residency Application Headshots

Each year I do a number of headshots for residency applications from students at Worcester’s UMASS Chan Medical School. If you are in med school, you know far better than me that competition is fierce. In much the same way that a Linkedin headshot is an employer’s first look at a potential employee, a residency application headshot will make up a big part of a program director’s first impression. A residency application headshot done by a professional photographer shows professionalism, confidence, and approachability. A good headshot isn’t going to get you into the program of your choice but it will ensure that directors are more likely to put your name to an actual face.

While medical school residency application headshots are really just simple, professional headshots they also differ a bit in that they are a bit of a celebration of your already impressive accomplishments. It isn’t advised to send out white-coat photos to potential residency programs, but you absolutely should bring it along to take some photos with it to show off to your friends and family.

Laid-back Headshots at my studio in Worcester

As a Worcester-based photographer, I have spent a lot of time in artist coops and collectives - from old mill buildings in Clinton to the Printer’s Building in Worcester. I am now happy to have headshot studio of my own, conveniently located at 51 Union St. in Downtown Worcester. My studio is small (cozy is a better word) but I chose it specifically because it gives me the perfect spot to focus only on headshots and portraiture. It is stocked with professional lighting and a lot of backdrop paper which means that I can deliver a huge range of headshots and portraits in one convenient location. This means that once I know what you need, you can arrive at my studio and be back to your day in as little as 15-20 minutes.

Portable Studio: Professional headshot sessions at your office or home all around the Worcester area

Not everyone can make it into the studio for their headshot session and that’s ok- I can bring the studio to you. If you would like your headshot session to take place at your workplace (great for teams - ask about group pricing) or home then I will have my backdrop and lighting set up and ready to go in about 15 minutes. I don’t need a lot of space and the end result is the same great quality that I always deliver.

One of the advantages of my on-location headshots is that it allows us to take advantage of the setting and make environmental portraits. Instead of the usual flat paper backdrops, we can incorporate your workplace into the headshot and really present your brand to clients and colleagues.

What to expect at your headshot session:

Our headshot session starts with a conversation about your needs. In some cases this is as simple as, “my company just needs a headshot,” to something a bit more complex and representative of who you are and what you do. This can be as simple or as collaborative as you want it to be. By understanding your needs I am able to create a game plan to pull the images that I want and you need from our time together in the most efficient way possible.

When you arrive at my studio, you will be greeted and given a bit of time to settle in. I realize that most people aren’t in front of the camera all the time and that there really is nothing natural about headshots. Knowing this, I have spent the last several years really diving into my craft so that I can focus more on your needs and our conversation than tinkering with settings. Your session will be smooth- I will guide you through a series of simple poses that I think will lend themselves to what you need out of your headshot session. If your company has specific needs or if there are photos that you saw 0online that you would like to use as inspiration, we will also incorporate those. I know that I can deliver great photos - my goal is to do this AND make you feel as comfortable as possible. One of the most common things that my clients tell me is that they reached out to me in the first place because the people in my photos don’t seem rigid. Creating a stress-free vibe really makes things easier for the both of us. Just because you’re a lawyer who needs a website photo that says, “I’m going to win,” doesn’t mean you have to be miserable doing it.

Sessions are not rushed - I don’t book anything back-to-back. A simple headshot session might last 15 - 40 minutes depending on outfit changes and our general flow. Longer sessions might be needed if you are hoping to come away with a large variety of looks.

After our session your proofs will be sent to your email in a convenient online gallery. You pick your favorites (up to five) for retouching and once those are done you can download them. Turnaround time is typically a week but I can accommodate most rush scenarios.
